3.1-tan (大婆様, Oobaba-sama) is an OS-tan representing the Windows 3.x series.

History
Obaba's history is not clearly documented across any source, but one plausible and the most likely origin of her design is a drawing by eg33 first uploaded to Danbooru in 2006, though the design has been seen in various OS-tan related communities since early 2004. This warrants a conclusion that her design originated between late 2003 and early 2004. Obaba's design since then, however, has widely varied in its coloring, proportions, outfit, and other traits in works depicting her. Obaba possesses great popularity to this day in the Eastern OS-tan community, more popular than XP-tan or ME-tan by artistic output while remaining somewhat niche within the West, though with a varyingly consistent output of artwork on both sides of the fandom. She holds the most posts out of any OS-tan on Pixiv, and the fourth most posts of any OS-tan on Danbooru, ahead of 95-tan and behind 2K-tan, ME-tan and XP-tan.

Appearance
Obaba appears as a lolibaba with either purple or gray hair, wearing a dress that widely varies in specific composition across different artists, but possesses a general purple color scheme and employs traits typical of Gothic Lolita fashion. Among her consistent traits are red eyes, a large bow located either on the front or back of her hair, and a smaller bow atop her chest bearing a metal "3.1" badge. Contemporary works most often involve more purple given to her design, while contemporaneous works from OS-tans' origin are more accurate to the colored eg33 work's composition.

Personality
Obaba can be argued to have one of the least consistent personalities of any OS-tan (not to be said as a negative trait), but her presentation on Futaba, specifically noted on its section of the Nijiura wiki, is that of a soft-spoken older woman in a far younger body. This depiction as noted before does not appear very consistently across many works, likely owing to the Nijiura Wiki's crowdsourced nature; as such, despite its somewhat contemporaneous nature, it cannot be taken solely as an accurate descriptor of her personality.

Trivia
* In the Eastern community, Ōbaba-sama is consistently portrayed as having an unexplained link to the food, or term as it is used with her, koshian (こしあん). References to the term alongside her portrayal have been found dating back to October 6 2007 on Pixiv, of which none explain the link's origins.
* Ōbaba-sama is often depicted as referring to the viewer's self-insert in works involving her as "pusshi" (ぷっしー).
Windows 8 was released by Microsoft in 2012 for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, tablets, and home theater PCs. It is the successor to Windows 7, and the predecessor to Windows 10. Development of Windows 8 started before the release of its predecessor in 2009. Its existence was first announced at CES 2011, and followed by the release of three pre-release versions from September 2011 to May 2012. The operating system was released to manufacturing on August 1, 2012, and was released for general availability on October 25, 2012, with upgrade disks and PCs available the following day.

Windows 8 added integration with online services, USB 3.0 support, additional security features, and introduced the Windows Store. It introduced the Metro design elements from Windows Phone to Windows desktops, and was oriented towards touchscreens to compete against other mobile OSes.

There was much controversy over Windows 8 for its new Start Menu, and the removal of the Start button from the taskbar, which were not welcomed by many. Some have even called it "unfriendly" and "useless" on a desktop or laptop, and reviews of the OS were quite mixed, or negative. Some of these issues were addressed with Windows 8.1, which was released to the public on October 27th 2013. 8.1 brought the Start button back to the taskbar, and made enhancements to the Start screen to address criticisms of Windows 8's user unfriendliness. 8.1 had mixed reviews, but had overall more positive reviews.
Theory
(NOTE: This is not OSC canon and is theory by an OSC user. Take information with a grain of salt...)

It is possible that Yu represents Windows RT while Ai represents Windows 8. Reason this is possible is because Ai being older than Yu, combined with the similar appearances, and Yu's more moe poses and appearance compared to Ai's more professional and serious poses, could be a reference to Windows RT and Windows 8, with 8 Being the oldest and more professional (having beta releases before its official release), and Windows RT being a tablet OS with the same UI as Windows 8, but having no x86 application support and only usable on ARM devices, making it more of a os to play with than something for professional work (despite being bundled with Office RT).
There's not many but a few fan made ones have surfaced in the fandom, such as a few from our very own users in the Os-tan collection forums, as well as a comic strip that oddly depicted 8-tan as a film director.
MS-DOS is most commonly represented as a shy schoolgirl, with black or dark grey hair in pigtails decorated with "DOS"-shaped hair ties; her hair ties are usually blue, but are sometimes depicted in the colors of the MS DOS prompt logo as shown in Windows. She wears round glasses, a white button-down blouse with a light blue skirt and suspenders. She carries around a keyboard, and is usually peeking around corners.

The implication is that, like MS-DOS itself on non-NT versions of Windows, she is always lurking somewhere in the background, just out of sight.

She originally represented the DOS prompt (In early pictures, including the one in the infobox, her armband says "Prompt") and assumed to be a catch-all for all the DOS OSes, but now more specifically represents MS-DOS.

Other character designs
MS-DOS-tan has also been drawn in an alternative outfit resembling EGL style, wearing a black sleeveless minidress, long boots, full-length gloves, and a choker, all with white lace trim; her stockings reach to just below the bottom of her dress' trim, and she wears a matching tiara. In some fanon, this portrayal is her younger self from before the OS Wars.

Another representation of MS-DOS is Windows 3.1-tan's cat, who can shapeshift into a catgirl in a nurse's outfit. It isn't known if she was an alternative MS-DOS character since the 'main' MS-DOS-tan is rarely drawn, but in most fanon, both characters co-exist.

Appearance
Obaba appears as a loribaba with either purple or gray hair, wearing a dress that widely varies in specific composition across different artists, but possesses a general purple color scheme and employs traits typical of Gothic Lolita fashion.

XP-tan is a dark-haired girl with ribbons in her hair and an XP hair ornament worn on the left side (infrequently, she is depicted with ornaments on both sides). As Windows XP was originally criticized for bloating a system and being very pretty without being equally as useful, XP-tan wears tight clothing and has large breasts. An early alternate outfit was especially skimpy, wearing a blue miniskirt, high-heeled shoes, and a midriff-bearing tube top with "XP" on the front. She usually dresses in a blue-and-white stylized schoolgirl outfit with ribbons and detached sleeves for decoration.

Also, as Windows XP used up large amounts of memory for its time, XP-tan is often seen eating or holding an empty bowl labeled "Memory".

Around 2014 there was a surge of art of XP-tan in observation of Windows XP's extended support being ended by Microsoft on April 8th, 2014. Despite this Windows XP still occasionally received security patches, with the last one being in May 2019.

Early Characterization
When the OS-tan phenomenon was in its early stages, XP was at the time the current Windows OS, and was heavily criticized. XP-tan's personality is often portrayed as shallow and promiscuous; the latter may reference not just the eye candy interface, but also the large number of security exploits XP had early in its lifetime. There is a strip where 2K-tan derides XP-tan and calls her an "Activation Whore" since XP required activation over the phone or internet to set up; this was a change in Windows that was widely criticized at the time. She generally fills the role in the manga as the typical eye candy character, but alternate interpretations may be starting to change this.

Shift in Characterization
The portrayal of XP-tan as a shallow piece of bloated eye candy seems to have changed ever since the debut of Windows Vista, its much higher hardware requirements and even fancier interface. In hindsight, XP had very high requirements for its time, but nowadays is able to run well on low-end computers, and XP's Luna GUI is simple-looking compared to Vista's and 7's Aero. While XP-tan may still be portrayed as dense and a big eater, she's now more likely to be seen as more reliable, dependable and practical than she ever was before.

Depictions
Deja Vu Works
In Deja Vu's doujins, she is seen as a somewhat dense but undeniably beautiful and envied character, easily compared to Mikuru Asahina from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu. She has had the most hentai scenes out of any of the OSes, much due to her large breasts, often drawn comically huge. However, her characteristically large breasts are envied by most other characters.

Usage Rights
The designer and owner of XP-tan has put out usage guidelines for her that translate to the following:

<blockquote>Regarding general personal activities that do not go through commercial sales channels (such as the production of derivative works such as doujinshi and non-commercial websites),
Regarding the use of 4 characters: "XP-tan", "Dr. Norton", "Buster", and "DOS Prompt"

We declare that we will not impose any restrictions or restrictions (you are free to use it as you please).

Please note that we do not grant any license to Softbank Publishing Corp. to use the above characters.</blockquote>

Trivia
* XP-tan's nickname, Saseko (させこ), derives from the X and P keys on a QWERTY keyboard being in the same places as the kana for sa (さ) and se (せ), respectively, on a Japanese keyboard; -ko (～子/～こ) is a common suffix in Japanese women's and girls' names.
This character represents the first edition of Windows 98. She is represented as a shy and small pre-teen girl with short navy blue hair with a clip shaped like 98, the Windows logo as part of a necktie or ascot and a schoolgirl outfit with a sleeveless white blouse, blue skirt, dark-colored shoes, long socks and gloves.

She is usually seen with 98SE-tan, and is said to fancy Homeo.

Vulcan Toys
Two early designs that continue to be used alongside the 98 an 98SE-tans are a pair of stick-limbed snack-boxes with a face and version number drawn in crayon, based on the Vulcan 300 toy that appeared in the anime series Konjiki no Gash Bell!!/Zatch Bell!.

This is a holdover from the very early days before the designs of the primary OS-tans had settled. Generic stick-limbed boxes were often used as placeholders; there had been instances of small DOS and Windows 3.11 boxes before other designs gained popularity.

Both girls now make regular use of these as mechanical suits. The mech-box used by 98 is blue in colour, and likewise the 98SE mech-box has a green theme. The mechs are sometimes shown as guardians or friends to the 98-tans, otherwise the two girls can be seated inside them as pilots. The box sizes can vary, ranging from doll-like when carried by the girls to taller than an adult when they ride inside them. While usually used as toys or weapons, they can serve other purposes, such as a clubhouse, a shelter, or a place to hide. (The boxes also appear to be less stable than the girls themselves; When a non-DOS based OS-tan enters the box, it has a tendency to fall apart.)

Other roles
In the comic that created 95 OSR 2.5-tan, 98-tan could be considered the main character. 95 OSR 2.5-tan sees her as a rival, but the rivalry isn't mutual, and 98-tan sees her as a well-meaning friend.
Released 1987, Windows 2.0 was the second release of the Microsoft Windows line. While it offered improvements over its predecessor, it was still quite rudimentary and incomplete.

Character Details
Physical
Windows 2.0-tan is depicted as a young girl with blue eyes, short, hime-cut black hair with two long locks and bangs. She wears a blue and white school uniform with lavender socks and black shoes, and a white headband whose ends have been tied in the shape of "2.0".

She is often depicted with leather gloves, tools, scuffs and dirt, reflecting her role as a stone-mason.

Personality
2.0-tan is sensitive, shy and mature beyond her years. Though she had a trusting personality and cheery outlook earlier in life, she is now mistrustful and perpetually melancholy.

She deals with trauma from the breakup of her family and her subsequent exile, manifesting in bouts of sleepwalking and night terrors.

History and Background
2.0-tan was born into the old MS-IBM family and lived a carefree childhood, getting into mischief and playfully facing off against rival Mac gangs. She was loved and cared for by her mother 1.0-tan and the family maid Xenix-tan. She was especially close with her older stepsister OS/2-tan, who initially pitied 2.0-tan but came to respect her as a peer, going as far as making a pact to stay with each other no matter what.

Her idealism was damaged after Xenix-tan left, the official line that she'd retired suddenly not matching with OS/2-tan's eyewitness account of the event. However, her doubts were assuaged by the birth of Windows 3.1-tan, and her new role as big sister, even as she drifted away from OS/2-tan because of the latter's rigorous training. 2.0-tan didn't realize that 3.1-tan was being trained to replace OS/2-tan, although OS/2-tan had suspicions.

Any remaining illusions were broken when the family was suddenly and acrimoniously split into separate IBM and MS factions. OS/2-tan tried to give 2.0-tan instructions, but was taken away before she could. While 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan remained with the family for several years afterward, they were eventually banished, living as wanderers amidst the chaos of the OS Wars and Unix Wars.

2.0-tan and her mother eventually banded together with Amiga-tan, Apple II-tan and others, forming the Binteeji Renmei as a sanctuary for vintage OS-tans. Here, 2.0-tan found the security and purpose her life had been missing, and friends who understand her.

Notes
* Angelica (Gunslinger Girl) is cited as an inspiration for Windows 2.0-tan.
Oichi-san has short brown hair with pink flowers decorating each side of her headdress.
Like 95-tan she is depicted in traditional Japanese clothing, this is likely for the same reason as well as it gives a sense that they are older fashion than more modern systems.
She is about the same height as Windows 3.1.

Her design shares many design similarities with modern Kokeshi dolls.

Name
The "ichi" in name likely refers to her representing Windows 1.0.

Personality
She often depicted as being reserved, modest and soft-spoken; giving her big sister energy even compared to Oobaba-sama.
She is also shown to prefer using older technologies, such as a Famicom rather than something newer.

Relationships
She is said to be the head of the Windows Family, and Oobaba-sama's older sister.
Much of her art depicts her spending time with Oobaba-sama, in role of big sister tolerating a younger sibling.

95-tan is also frequently depicted with her, likely due to them both having designs based around wearing traditional Japanese clothing.
One of the more popular OS-tans, 95-tan is depicted as a traditional lady from the early modern era of Japan. This is much due to her status as an older version of modern Windows. She is a gentle-looking brown haired woman in a kimono, with a hair ribbon showing the four Windows colors. The pattern of her kimono is based on the file hana256.bmp, which was used as a desktop wallpaper pattern in the Japanese version of Windows. Her costume is a traditional kimono and a hakama of Japan, and she wears thick sandals, geta on her feet. These are women's college student's typical clothes as seen in the earliest period during the course of the modernization in Japan (from the Meiji period to the Taisho period), and the cultural background for the comparison of the modernization of Windows to modernization of Japan is seen there.

95-tan's most common activities are drinking tea, serving meals or doing other housework. One recurring theme is her unfamiliarity with newer, post Win-95 technologies, such as USB devices and broadband internet connections. While appearing to be one of the more stable OS-tans, she is also often depicted wielding a katana in an aggressive manner, usually toward the Mac-tans, but also when disciplining troublemakers within her own family. This symbolizes the fact that it was her generation of operating systems that Microsoft finally achieved full dominance of the personal computer market. One comic strip shows her talking to other OS-tans about beating up MacOS; and 95 is commonly portrayed with an overwhelming hatred of the Macintosh OS-Tans, particularly her bitter rival MacOS-tan. Due the popular belief that Mozilla Firefox is incompatible with Windows 95, several OS-tan four-panel comics have been made portraying other OS-tans encouraging 95-tan to think in Russian! and 95-tan's inability to internalize the Russian language enough to accomplish this.

Appearance
Obaba appears as a loribaba with either purple or gray hair, wearing a dress that widely varies in specific composition across different artists, but possesses a general purple color scheme and employs traits typical of Gothic Lolita fashion.

Released in 2000 as the successor to Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 was marketed as the most reliable and secure version of Windows to date; a fact that generally held true as far as reliability goes, but unfortunately, its security was quickly compromised by many major viruses being created for it. As a result, although it was succeeded by Windows XP for desktops and Windows Server 2003 for servers, Microsoft continued to release security patches for it regularly until they ended support on 13 July 2010; over 10 years after the original release.

It is worth noting that there was plans for a home edition, codename Neptune, but it only saw a few test builds before being dissolved into Windows XP

Character details
General description
The personification for Windows 2000 was one of the first characters created. A few variants exist, but the most common is 2k-tan, the personification for Windows 2000 Professional. She is typically drawn as an intelligent, professional, reserved looking woman with short blue hair, glasses, and hairclips that resemble cat ears flanking a small white bonnet or ruffle, similar to maid's hairclip that shows the windows logo. The cat ear-shaped hairclips are a pun: "2K" in Japanese is "Ni-Ke", the meowing sound in Japanese is "nya", so she is also known as "Nya-ke".

Her outfit resembles a swimsuit suggesting the Windows logo colors, and she wears a blue long coat.

This is thought to reflect the opinion that Windows 2000 is the most stable, dependable, and balanced system. She often acts like the older sister or dependable woman among the Windows-tans and is one of the domain controllers for this reason. In addition, because of the greater stability of Win2K compared with WinME (which was released around the same time), 2K-tan is often described as a guardian of ME-tan.

Trivia
* The blue in the picture in her 100x100 px avatar is close to the default Windows 2000 desktop colour.

* An alternate design, playing on the punny name of "Nya-ke" shows 2K-tan having real cat ears and a tail (instead of mechanical cat ear-shaped hair clips), matching her swimsuit, gloves and boots.

Windows 2000 is the successor to Windows NT 4.0, and the first widely-available NT-based Windows Distribution. It was aimed at the business sector and thus was widely used in offices and servers rather than homes. To make up for this, Microsoft released Windows ME around the same time, which was aimed at the home market, but ME's lack of stability meant that 2000 stayed around quite a bit longer. Indeed, the professional, sturdy OS was supported for 10 years, rather long given the lifecycle of some OSes. While it was initially the most secure OS that Microsoft had ever released, some ambitious individuals took this as a challenge, and as a result several hard-hitting viruses were created specifically to target it. While it was succeeded by Windows XP in 2001, Microsoft continued to release security patches for it until the end of its lifecycle in 2010.

Windows 2000 features upgrades to the GUI of NT, improved support for users with disabilities, encryption, improved system management tools, and several features present in the Windows 98 line, such as Internet Tools (Outlook Express, IE 5, and others), and extended plug and play support.
Windows 2000 was supposed to be adapted into a home version, codenamed Windows Neptune. Neptune saw the release of a few betas, but sadly never made it out of test lab, and it was eventually integrated into Whistler, which later became Windows XP.

Character Details
2k-kun is a man in his late 20's to early 30's sporting a rounded blue haircut, blue-grey eyes, and metallic cat ears (albeit smaller than his sister). He is tall, and constantly seen in business attire of some sort. He is overall a calm, rational man, typically looking after his brothers and sisters with a sort of fatherly nature about him, not unlike 95-kun. Though he can get angry, for the most part he doesn't, staying as a carefree, happy=go-lucky kind of guy.

2k-kun works in an office with some of his fellow -tans and kuns. Like 95-kun, he likes drinking (though not as much as 95-kun), and often goes drinking after work with his coworkers (who are also some of his friends). Most of the people he hangs out with are from the Nijiura and Futaba Characters, such as his best friend Eigyouseki and close friend/love interest Daiginjou. It has been suggested that 2k might have some sort of romantic inkling for Inu-t (or at least thoughts about her), but this lacks ample evidence in that it has only been shown once. 2k can also be seen hanging out with ME-kun, XP-kun, and Pizza-kun. (Just like with 2k-tan, 2k-kun has a close, special relationship with Pizza-kun. Unlike his sister and Pizza-tan, however, the relationship is less one of a fangirl and her idol and more of an office worker and his assistant. Pizza-kun also exhibits some degree of control over 2k-kun, in the way that 2k-kun seems to have some sort of crush on Pizza-kun. It might be slightly similar to the relationship between Momo and Sumire in Tramps Like Us. It isn't known whether or not Pizza-kun works in the same office as 2k-kun, but given that Pizza-kun also always wears a suit, it's a possibility.)

2k-kun seems to enjoy spending time with his family, though perhaps due to his position in the office, doesn't seem to spend much time at home. Despite this, he is often shown doing the activities we might see an adult older brother doing for kid siblings (Such as playing Santa on Christmas Eve), and seems to get along well with his older siblings. Given 2k's assumed role of guardian of ME, he spends a bit more time with ME-kun than his other siblings (though he spends plenty of time with XP-kun, too). ME-kun is much more capable than his sister, however, so the extent of caring for him might just involve 2k bringing him to school on his way to work. If nothing else, the pair seem to play off of each other in some way, even if ME-kun occasionally makes trouble for 2k (although not in the same way as ME-tan would for 2k-tan). 2k-kun's relationship with XP-kun seems to be one of an older brother looking after his younger sibling, but more in a mentorish sort of way. 2k has been known to look in on or cheer XP-kun on during his training, and hang out with him after.
Character Details
General

Ubuntu is a Linux distribution, developed by Canonical as a branch from Debian GNU/Linux.

Character details
General
She represents mainly the original Ubuntu, but in most interpretations also represents the official Ubuntu variants (Netbook Edition, Kubuntu and Xubuntu). There have been Kubuntu-tan designs, which some consider to be one of Ubuntu's younger sisters, others consider her the same character using the KDE GUI in place of Ubuntu's usual GNOME GUI.

There is, however, a separate Lubuntu-tan.

Characterization
No matter the design, Ubuntu-tan is generally portrayed as happy, friendly and open-minded. She is knowledgeable and forgiving with those new to Linux; all of which are references to the customizable and user-friendly nature of the operating system. In the OS-tan expanded universe, she is one of the most popular and successful diplomats, towards other factions, and within the Linux Unix Consortium. She easily has her share of competitors within her faction, a consequence of her popularity, power and influence.

Incidentally, the meaning of the word Ubuntu is generally suggested to mean humanity towards others.

As one of the most popular and well-known Linux-tans outside of the Linux and Unix circles, she is a direct competitor to the Mac OSX-tans, Windows XP-tan, Vista-tan and 7-tan.

It is suggested that she is also fond of nature and wildlife, referencing the alliterative animal theme of Ubuntu's codenames.

Multiple designs
As of this date, there are several known renditions of Ubuntu-tan. The first was posted on 6/12/2005 by the Japanese artist Piro. This Ubuntu-tan is portrayed as a young, wild and happy-go-lucky girl with only a very slight dark-skinned complexion and blue eyes. She is scantily-clad with motif's from the default Human Gnome desktop theme and wears high-heeled sandals. Pieces of the Ubuntu logo are also featured as her hairclip and forming a kind of energy shawl around her chest.

The second rendition was posted on 10/9/2005 by the Italian artist Juzo-kun. This Ubuntu-tan is older, and has a kind, serene quality to her. Her clothing is also a combination of motifs based on the Ubuntu logo and the default Human Gnome desktop theme; however, she also sports armor and a spear, following the trend of depicting all Linux-tans as members of a warrior-class.

Both versions follow the theme of making Ubuntu a dark-skinned girl of probable African decent, given the South African roots of the Ubuntu Linux distribution. There have been several fanart renditions of Ubuntu-tan, usually more-or-less modeled after Juzo-kun's design, with varying styles of clothing.
Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distro, developed by Canonical as a branch from Debian GNU/Linux.

Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distro; branched off of Debian GNU/Linux as a variant that's not just programmer-friendly, but user-friendly, and has a predictable, reliable update schedule. Ubuntu is largely targeted as desktop use, and also has a variants for servers, and used to have a version for netbooks until it got merged with the desktop version. It is available in more than 55 languages, and there are computers from vendors with Ubuntu pre-installed.
Amiga-tan or 'Miggy' is commonly drawn as a young, tall, friendly and energetic artist. She is one of the tallest vintage-tans, and towers over all of her contemporaries; this referencing how advanced and powerful the Amiga hardware is, while leaving her seemingly awkward and intimidating compared to them. Her original checkered shirt is based off the contemporary Amiga logo, although the monogram on her chest, the rainbow checkmark on her beret and rainbow eyes nod towards the older 80's logos. Her attire is meant to have a 50's retro look as she is a bit old-fashioned; however, her personality and ideas have (and continue to be) well ahead of their time. As an artist she carries around an art tote riddled with as many easter eggs as art supplies (although later renditions omitted the bag out of practicality).

The beret she wears is the only part of her old Commodore Family uniform that she still wears. Her old uniform is a stylized, sleeveless sailor outfit with long white gloves; the blouse is white, the skirt and collar are blue and the scarf is red. In her youth, her hair was short and tied in pigtails with Amiga Boing Ball hair ties.

Another depiction of Amiga-tan is her gala dress, this design debuted in Dec 2006 to commemorate the debut of Amiga OS 4.0.

She is one of the few old-era OS-tans (not including the Mac-tans) that still remains very active and has the potential to stage a market comeback. But due to her preference of cooperation rather than competition, she strives to bring ALL underrepresented OS-tans to the public consciousness rather than only herself. Being a voice for the minority doesn't gain her much efficiency, but makes her particularly charismatic to both friends and strangers alike.

Alternate character interpretation
Family and relationships
Like most old-era OS-tans, the Amigoid Family structure has historically been somewhat fragmented. Amiga-tan has a mother (TripOS-tan) and two daughters ( MorphOS-tan and AROS-tan), but rarely has a chance to see them. When she was born into the service of the Commodore Family, TripOS-tan had to sign away her parental rights to Amiga-tan, and they have not met until recent years.

Her daughters are actually cloned from her, since she had nothing to do with them being created; she refers to them as her daughters because it's more personal that way.

Commodore-tans
Her stepsisters are the Commodore-tans: Commodore PET-tan, Commodore VIC20-tan, Commodore 64-tan, Commodore Plus/4-tan, Commodore 128-tan with whom she spent her entire youth; except for Commodore 65-tan, who she had never met until long after the Commodore Family disbanded).

While in service, most of her stepsisters disliked her. PET-tan was constantly annoyed over her disregard for military etiquette, VIC-20-tan and C64-tan hated her for years, seeing her as a threat who would steal their following away. The rivalry was especially personal to C64-tan, who is an aspiring musician and hated that Amiga-tan is a talented musician. Plus/4 merely tolerated her, and C128-tan was somewhat friendly though.

But it is only in recent years that she's been able to get along well with at least PET-tan, C64-tan and C128-tan.

AMIX (Amiga Unix)
AMIX-tan was from a Unix bloodline, and was a stepsister to Amiga and the rest of the Commodore Family. AMIX-tan was emotionally cold and calculating, but also lonely; most of her stepsisters were too busy competing amongst themselves or other home computer-tans to pay much attention to her. Amiga-tan, not being very competitive, spent some time with her and became her friend.

UNIX
Amiga-tan has met UNIX on occasion, and visits the Binteeji Renmei from time to time. UNIX is friends with her, and is the benefactress of the faction. This was because even at her most bitter after the pain of the Unix wars, she was amazed by Amiga-tan's kind treatment of AMIX-tan, her generosity towards others despite her hardship, and was just happy to meet someone friendly and honest for one of the first times in her life.

History and background
Origins and early life
Amiga-tan has multiple origins, She is the daughter of TripOS-tan, and was originally going to get adopted into the Atari Family, as the Amiga began development by Atari employees, but when Amiga-tan was born, the Commodore Family offered Trip OS-tan a better deal for her under the condition that she sign away her parental rights.

The circumstances of her early life sparked blood feuds between the Commodores and the Ataris, but even then, most of the Commodore-tans didn't get along with her; she just couldn't fit in, and struggled to cooperate with others even though she wanted to. The more militant of the Commodores saw her as competition rather than an ally, and wrote her off as being arrogant.

Her biggest rival was to be Atari ST-tan, who herself was created in response to Amiga-tan being adopted into the Commodore family; Amiga-tan didn't take the rivalry that seriously (and if anything, C64-tan did much more seriously!) even though her followers did. She was created as an extremely advanced OS-tan, and was the most powerful personal computer-tan for several years. She could have easily dominated the gaming and graphics markets, but would have rather collaborated with others even though she wasn't good at it, and she wasn't a very good tactician, the latter referencing the botched advertisement campaigns of the Amiga. Those factors prevented her from gaining more territory and fortune for her family than she actually did. That was another, yet contradictory reason why C64-tan in particular hated her for years.

In the final years of the Commodore Family, their financial hardships strained their relationships further, with VIC-20, C64 and Plus/4 treating Amiga as a scapegoat. While those tensions got worse, Amiga-tan attempted to remain neutral and indifferent to cope through it all, and not get involved with family politics. Her indifference didn't help in any way. When they went bankrupt in 1994, she didn't take it as hard as many of her stepsisters.

After the family's bankruptcy
WIP
After the Commodore Family disbanded, everyone was left to fend for themselves, and many of them went their own ways. Amiga-tan was alone and wasn't prepared for the brutality of the OS Wars. She couldn't stop and help others, and this upset her a lot; all she could do was run from place to place, narrowly escaping the crossfire. During that time, she met Apple II-tan, Lisa-tan and GS/OS-tan, who retired from the Apple Family to live on II-tan's farmland. II-tan allowed her to live with them, though Lisa-tan was indifferent, and GS/OS-tan was hostile at first, but they allied, motivated to help other OS-tans hurt by the war.

During their war relief efforts, Amiga-tan and her new friends found Windows 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan desperately wandering around in a ravaged land. At first 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan refused to join them, feeling guilty that they 'caused' the OS Wars and didn't deserve the help being offered to them.

Windows XP Professional was released alongside Windows XP Home and was aimed specifically at the business and school sector. It succeeded Windows 2000 and featured improvements to certain features, such as improved Encryption, and introduced new features, such as a new, more user-friendly GUI, faster boot time, hardware support improvements, Remote Desktop, new accessories and games, improved accessibility for disabled users, new system management utilities, handwriting recognition, Driver Rollback, expanded languages, and more.

XP was succeeded by Windows Vista in 2007, but XP proved to be so popular that most people either switched back or continued to use it. Microsoft released service packs for XP starting in 2002, and XP's support was extended to 2014.

Character Details
XP-kun is a man in his late teens to early 20's. He looks older than his sister XP-tan despite being the younger brother, due in large part to his stature and well-developed muscles. Tall and muscular, XP-kun sports a long, brown-black braid, brown-black eyes, and scars on his chest forming the word "XP". His outfit consists of a collar, cuffs, and a long chinese-style loincloth all in the blue and white striped cuff pattern of his sister's outfit. (There also happen to be a few XP-kun variants, representing the different colour schemes available for the OS. They are shown as different characters, independent of XP-kun.) XP is brash but gentle, usually a nice, easy-going guy who just doesn't always think things through. He is very strong, but is kind to animals and children, and seems to respect people for who they are. Though he may be loud, he is just loud and cheerful.

XP is most commonly seen in the company of either 2k-kun or Pizza-tan. The former plays the big brother card, cheering him on when he spars and hanging out with him in his downtime. The latter seems to have developed a sort of admiration for him (perhaps due to her being a fangirl of 2k-tan, and 2k-tan having a crush on XP-kun), and the two commonly hang out and spar together. It is with XP-kun that the only pictures of an older Pizza-tan have been seen. As mentioned, 2k-tan has a crush on XP-kun, but it is unknown if XP returns these feelings, or who (if anyone) he has feelings for.

XP has also been seen in the company of his younger brothers Homeo and ME-kun. The former is usually just doing the typical poses or just hanging out. With Homeo, however, XP shares a special understanding, possibly due to them both having rather difficult sisters. He plays the regular older brother role here, being mischievous but not mean, and kindly looks out for and takes care of his little brother.

It has been shown that XP-kun is the only one to have a positive relationship with any one of the Troubled Windows USA, specifically his American sister/counterpart XPUSA-tan (not to be confused with Komeppo-tan). Given the two of them both like to train, the bond was only natural.
Being an OS designed for small devices, the personification of Windows CE (CE for short) is portrayed as diminutive and fairy-like; complete with gossamer wings and wielding a USB cable wand. Because a modified version of Windows CE was the operating system of the Sega Dreamcast console, there are several illustrations of CE standing upon or around the Dreamcast's swirl logo.
Windows Family Annex Bios

History
The Windows Family dates back to 1980 as part of the Microsoft-IBM Family and branched off of it from the Microsoft-IBM Family's breakup in 1990.

During the 1980's with Windows 1.0-tan and Windows 2.0-tan as the only Windows OSes, the Windows-tans were rather obscure and low-key. The Windows-tans first achieved popularity with the advent of Windows 3.1-tan (then Windows 3.0-tan). Because of Windows 3.1-tan's success, the Microsoft-IBM Family broke up and the Windows Family started on its imperialist ambitions.

Windows NT-tan was created to conquer the server market and Windows 95-tan to conquer the consumer market. NT-tan and 95-tan were paired together to help each other fight and conquer. But also as part of the Windows Family's imperialist ambitions, Windows 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan were banished during the OS Wars because they knew of the early IBM-Microsoft Family which the Family's executives thought would be better off forgotten and not taught to the younger generations of Windows-tans though MS-DOS-tan was kept around because MS-DOS was still a major seller. They were also unwilling and unable to carry out the scorched-earth tactics that NT-tan and 95-tan could.

NT-tan established the Windows Family's foothold in the server market. While not as nearly as powerful as the Unix-tan forces that dominated the server market previously, she capitalized on clever marketing and the weaknesses of the Unix Family, war-torn by the Unix Wars.

95-tan took the consumer market by storm, with her forces pillaging and conquering any competing territory that crossed their path, with her main competitors being the Mac-tans who were unprepared for the new style of war that developed during the OS Wars of the mid-1990's. 95-tan's forces conquered nearly all the Mac-tans' territory, including their capital city.

After the brutality of the OS Wars ended, NT-tan and 95-tan settled down and retired to a more peaceful and prosperous life with their younger relatives who enjoy the luxury of a largely sheltered life to this day.
